Your Valued Contributions:
Reporting to the Chief Finance/Operations Officer, manages all aspects of dental delivery, regulatory compliance, quality, efficiency, and the supervision of all dental staff.
  • Develops and implements operating strategies, plans and budgets for the facility.
    • Actively participates in the development of strategic and operational plans for the organization, providing insight and recommendations based on department experiences.
    • Develops and implements dental department annual operating plans consistent with the health center’s strategic and operational plans.
    • Provides input in the preparation of the annual budget analyzing prior department performance, overall health center and operational plans, and anticipated growth; develops spending plans based on approved budgets.
    • Reviews and analyzes key performance indicators and identifies areas for improvement; consults with senior management and colleagues to develop strategies for improving performance.
    • Maintains accountability for “bottom-line” operational and financial performance of the dental department, reaching or exceeding approved financial and performance goals.
  • Assists Dental Clinical Director in managing the clinical operations of the department.
    • Works with Dental Clinical Director to develop and implement effective processes and procedures for delivering care to patients; shares experiences and learns from colleagues, and implements new techniques as appropriate.
    • Reviews and analyzes key operational performance measures, identifies trends and makes adjustments to operating procedures to result in improved measures.
    • Ensures that planned and actual staffing levels are optimized to provide quality patient care and meet organizational and facility expectations; works with leadership to ensure provider staffing and scheduling is optimized.
    • In conjunction with the Dental Clinical Director, ensures that staff comply with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Manages the administrative functions of the Dental Department
    • Monitors and analyzes key administrative performance indicators; develops and implements plans to improve administrative procedures and processes.
    • Monitors and analyzes provider scheduling and no-shows trends; makes adjustments to scheduling and administrative processes to improve patient access.
    • Monitors financial reports for discrepancies; works with the Finance Department to resolve discrepancies.
    • Monitors spending activities and adjust expenditures to meet budgetary requirements.
    • Ensures that planned and actual administrative staffing levels are optimized to provide administrative and patient support services.
  • Manages, directly and indirectly, the staff of the facility.
    • Determines the most effective method for assigning responsibilities and duties to department employees, in conjunction with other operations managers and senior management.
    • Assigns duties and responsibilities, and ensures employees receive instruction/training needed to complete their job responsibilities.
    • Ensures that employees are aware of and adhere to all organization policies and procedures, and conveys all senior management communications and directives.
    • Prepares and conducts performance appraisals for immediate staff:
      • Completes performance appraisal documentation
      • Meets with employees to review documentation and provide feedback
      • Develops and monitors employee development plans as needed
    • Participates in hiring, disciplinary, and termination procedures in conjunction with Human Resources:
      • Interviews candidates and makes recommendations to management and Human Resources
      • Discusses and monitors disciplinary action with troubled employees
      • Follows through on proper termination procedures when employee dismissal is imminent
  • Represents the health center in the community.
    • Develops and maintains relationships with leaders in the public and private sector, including employers and community organizations, in order to publicize and promote the services of the health center and its Dental function.
    • Represents the health center’s Dental Department in meetings of professional, business and community organizations.
    • Identifies and pursues opportunities to work with other community health organizations (i.e. Dental Clinics North) and related agencies; ensures the effective participation by the the health center in appropriate community events
Required Training & Experience:
  • Possesses a current CPR certification.
  • Possesses a current State of Michigan driver’s license and valid automobile insurance.
